Phenomenon: The End of the World Scenarios

Welcome to the spooky, sensationalized end of the world “2012 Phenomenon.” Thanks to an array of spellbinding theories tossed about on the Internet, books, TV, and blockbuster films, catastrophic events were feared to hit in the year 2012 -- a 21st century Titanic.
Today, in 2025, doomsday followers still believe the world will stop, too. We're on the brink of nuclear war--or threats of one--a new potential bird flu pandemic,  new variants of COVID surges, unhealthy air quality and deadly wildfires year-round, especially in the Western US, and UFOs. Not to forget droughts and famine...Our plate is full worldwide of scary nightmare stuff. Read on—unravel some believe it or not no-nonsense scenarios that may or may not happen.
  • Alien Attack: In the exciting film “Independence Day” aliens pay a visit to Earth. The extraterrestrials are hostile and their arrival causes devastation. Other UFO films like “War of the Worlds” and open-minded human observers show us that we may not be alone.
  • 2012 Scenario: And come December 21, an E.T. sequel could have taken place on our planet. But, the rumor was, this 2012 Phenomenon scenario would come with a Planet X aka Nibiru and collide with Earth. Still here.
  • Great Earthquakes: If you don’t like space creatures, you may not enjoy a group gathering of planets that can shake it up. The Jupiter Effect, a book penned by John Gribben, Ph.D., and Stephen Plagemann, predicted an alignment of the planets of the solar system would cause gravitational effect on the Earth’s crust and create great earthquakes, including a great movement of the San Andreas Fault, on March 10, 1982. It didn’t happen. But it will one day.
  • Asteroid/Meteor: If the West Coast doesn’t go down, the East Coast may be next in line, according to the film “Armageddon,” when an asteroid zooms toward Earth. As the rock nears, meteorites damage New York with cause of concern for our planet. According to the late California Geologist Jim Berkland, we may be tested during the 2029 scheduled close approach of an asteroid.
  • Polar Shift: In another sci-fi thriller, “2012” shows us a pole shift in motion where the North Pole and South Pole change places.  If there is a pole shift (shifts of geographical locations of the poles and the axis of rotation of the Earth), great earthquakes and massive flooding could be the end result of such an event.
  • Solar Storms: Seattle-based, science author Mitch Battros believes there may be a connection between the Sun and Earth’s magnetic field shift and earthquakes. In my book The Man Who Predicts Earthquakes (Sentient Publications), he noted his studies have been targeted toward solar activity and its link to weather. So, what is Battros’s equation? Sunspots – Solar Flares – Magnetic Field Shift – Shifting Ocean and Jet Stream Currents – Extreme Weather and Human Disruption.  Solar flares are nothing new. In the movie “Knowing” the sun’s solar flares scorch the Earth and a lethal tidal wave of fire sweeps the Earth. Some theories suggest on December 21 a solar storm could happen.
Meanwhile, I suspect the media and commercialism will have a heyday about the potential coming apocalypse. More chatter about a dangerous reversal of the Earth’s magnetic field (which could cause a mega glitch in technology to solar radiation) will be the buzz. As an intuitive, I sense we will be challenged and endure more natural disasters and man-made catastrophes–whatever the cause may be. And it may feel like end times but in the end we do not have control over catastrophic events.
The End of the World as We Knew It
Back in 1999, people feared the Y2K crazies linked to a potential computer crisis but we survived and entered the 21st century. In 12 years our world has endured events that have felt like the sky was falling. Who can forget the attack of America on September 11, 2001; The 2004 Asian Tsunami; Hurricane Katrina; the BP oil spill; the 2009 flu pandemic;the 9.0 Japan Quake-Tsunami(s) and nuclear plant crisis; and the COVID pandemic. These events were horrific. Lives were lost, humans and animals were displaced, and our environment was challenged. But despite the chaos, life goes on and our world is still here.

Good Luck Foods for the New Year 2025

TAHOE’S TASTY TRADITIONS: GOOD FOODS FOR GOOD LUCK

By Cal Orey

As the New Year approaches, you, like me, may turn to yummy traditions that symbolize good fortune and health. In Tahoe, I remember a neighbor who cooked black-eyed peas with bacon for New Year’s, believing it would bring prosperity. While I wasn’t fond of the strong aroma, the idea of good food for good luck was appealing enough to win me over to Tahoe’s tasty traditions.

Each year, I make a point to gather special foods that may or may not guarantee happiness and health, but certainly make you feel proactive welcoming the new year. Did you know? The number 7 is often tied with good fortune thanks to cultural significance and numerology. So, here’s the winners for 2025 to help enhance your mind, body, and spirit.

1.     GRAPES: In some cultures, eating grapes at midnight may boost good luck for the coming year. Grapes contain water and are rich in vitamin C which is good for overall health. Their nature sugars provide a quick energy boost for both physical activity and mental clarity. Also, eating grapes together can enhance social bonding. Tip: Purple ones boast disease-fighting antioxidants. And note, grapes are for people—not pets.

2.     GREEN TEA: This popular tea is celebrated for its calming properties and is savored during New Year’s celebrations to provide relaxation and mindfulness. It can help reduce stress while helping focus—good for grounding during hectic holidays. It’s rich in antioxidants which benefit the heart. Tip: Sip cuppa in the afternoon—it does contain a bit of caffeine—for a quick energy boost.

3.     HONEY: Nature’s sweetener is used during New Year celebrations symbolizing sweetness in life for the new year. It boasts antibacterial properties that can help immune function and provide quick energy—fuel for body and mind action. Tip: Drizzle in a cup of green tea to help keep colds and flu at bay.

4.     LONG NOODLES: Long noodles (whole grain) symbolize longevity and money in cultures, during the New Year. Noodles provide good carbs that fuel the body keep energy levels stable. They are a good source of B vitamins which are good for brain health. Eating long noodles are believed to may boost mindfulness, providing a link to gratitude. Tip: Make a stir-fry with veggies or soup for a healthful dinner.

5.     NUTS: Both almonds and walnuts eaten during New Year celebrations are symbols of wealth and prosperity. Almonds contain vitamin E which are good for brain and heart health; walnuts are also good for the brain thanks to their omega-e content, which helps mood. Tip: Snack on lightly salted or roasted nuts.

6.     LEMONS AND ORANGES: Citrus fruit is a sign of good fortune in some cultures when consumed during New Year celebrations. They are a super source of vitamin C, which is immune-boosting—a must-have to stave off viruses during the wintertime and beginning of the New Year.  The bright color of lemons oranges also can boost mood. Tip: Put out a bowl of lemons or oranges on a table or kitchen counter. (It will be a reminder to get your vitamin C and to hydrate since the fruit contains water.)

7.     POMEGRANATE: Pomegranates are often lined with prosperity and fertility in many cultures. They rich in vitamin C, which help keep you healthy during the wintertime. The seeds can boost mood thanks to their vitamin C, which may reduce anxiety when facing the unknown future. Fresh seeds are one way to enjoy their health benefits. Or add to salads, yogurt, or add in a smoothie. Tip: Try pomegranate juice without added sugars.

More Lucky Foods to Try: Collard greens symbolize wealth due to their green color resembling money.  Black-eyed peas (not my cup of tea but they are good for you) are believed to bring prosperity. They are found at grocery stores and can be put in soups or a side dish. Cornbread. A staple food represents wealth and is easy to bake at home. Use a mix or buy cornmeal and make it from scratch. A Special Note: I now will not be including chicken in my food plan come the next new year. Some cultures believe that poultry is not a lucky food and good things may simply fly away.

By stocking up on my New Year's fave foods, you’ll feel like you’re doing your part to invite health and happiness into your life as we step in the new year. (Recipes for these foods can be found in The Healing Powers of Tea, Honey, and Superfoods (published by Kensington).
