Sweet News on Popular Book--The Healing Powers of Honey

Honey brings health benefits as sweet as its taste.
UPDATE: The Healing Powers of Honey will be released in mass market gift size format in 2018. Any day an excerpt about pairing honeys and teas from the popular book (was featured in the Good Cook book club; a best seller banner on in December) will be on The Daily Tea website!
 (excerpt from Wellbella Magazine)
“Eating antioxidant-rich honey can help lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes—even help reduce body fat and unwanted weight—and increase longevity,” says Cal Orey, author of the [timeless] book The Healing Powers of Honey.  But the benefits of eating honey go even further. Easing sore throats, boosting energy levels and strengthening the immune system are just a few added perks. As a DIY beauty treatment, honey can also be used to soften and exfoliate the skin.
It’s important to note, however, that not all honeys are created equal. “The quality of honey matters,” explains Orey. “It should be real, raw, unprocessed and unheated. Unfiltered honey, straight from the hive, is the true ‘superfood’ nutritionists applaud.” And while most honeys contain natural antibacterial qualities, some varieties contain higher levels than others. For example, Manuka honey, a special type of honey harvested from bees that feed on tea tree plants, is unique in its ability to treat minor wounds and burns.
Quick Tip
Supercharge your green tea—and soothe a cough or cold—by adding 1 teaspoon each of buckwheat honey, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and cayenne.
“During the creation of The Healing Powers of Chocolate, I noticed that honey, like chocolate, was noted in the Mediterranean diet—an underlying theme in my book series,” says author Cal Orey. “And that five-letter word—honey—stuck in my mind like a honeybee on a sunflower. What else could follow the class act of decadent chocolate?” For more info on The Healing Powers of Honey, visit

 Deliciously healing surprises. . ..
The art of using olive oil for mind, body, and spirit goes back 6,000 years. Hippocrates, "the father of medicine," used olive oil in over 60 healing remedies.
New research confirms that olive oil can help lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes, and it can stall age-related diseases.
Combining olive oil with other oils (like coconut and macadamia nut oils), can help combat fatigue, infections, and insomnia, and help you fight fat and shape up!
Bring on the butter--especially the right kind and right amount. When paired with oils, this twentieth-century "forbidden" saturated fat is a new twenty-first-century health food.
"Orey gives kudos to olive oil--and people of all ages will benefit from her words of wisdom." --Dr. Will Clower, CEO Mediterranean Wellness

Intuitive Sensed Hiker-Dog Dilemma

Update: Recently, a boy and his dog made the news... because they were MIA in the Sierra-and a storm was rolling in.
Off the phone networks for a bit, on deadline for my next book (yes, I predicted I would get the project), I couldn't help but use my intuition and dish my read for the thrill of it--and because I love dogs.

On my Facebook wall I posted many times--sharing my vivid images and gut instincts: I noted the duo was physically challenged; there may have been a bear (on a post interview this happened and the dog went into protective mode as I said my Aussie would do); in the video the dog looked like he had an issue, I said, on the "I Love Tahoe" site when the dog laid in the snow--found it odd--not a Siberian Husky and the words of its owner seemed off about it. I read the voice energy and sensed trouble ahead. I noted I saw they were likely stationary (which they were), the two would be found, okay... (Both predictions came true.)
While my posts got thumbs up on "I Love Tahoe" Facebook website, my concern went ignored on my page with 5000 followers. Go figure. I flunked math in college. So I don't get it. (I get more comments forecasting shakers on Coast to Coast AM; and even last month when I announced I was pregnant the amazing shake-up was off the charts from people who do not know me.)

Cal Orey Wow...Sensing the dog may have tried to protect him...something unexpected happened. Envisioning the two r OK but challenged.

Jen Gregory They are well-prepared. Bauer (dog) has boots!
Cal Orey I'm an intuitive/dog person at Tahoe. Work psychic network/on national radio. Good track record. Something came down despite his preparedness--still see both OK but sketchy.

This exchange below is a private message on Facebook with an intuitive friend--we both have sensed oncoming earthquakes in the SF Bay Area--many "hits." We sensed a bear...  And yes, an important point: the canine's paws were sore, dog whooped so the two did not go any farther. A blessing in disguise so the wayward boy and his dog could be found. And that's where "stationary" came into play and a remarkable rescue.
i'm hoping the dog isn't hurt...but could be...

The story ended well. Actually, the morning the two were found, I googled the results "found alive" and the upbeat headlines popped up, showing me the outcome I predicted. After all, I am tagged "time frame girl" on one of phone psychic networks. Bottom line: The dog and boy survived. But I knew they would do just that. The end.
Motto: Bring a backup cell phone battery. Think about dire consequences before acting and flying solo with a canine companion.

So, exactly how in the world did I, a veteran author and natural Earth changes prognosticator, end up being a live part-time phone psychic anyhow?

Blame it on the Great Recession hit (yes, I predicted it). In the winter of 2010, I called a psychic (or 10) to ask, "When is a foreign rights check for my books coming--and how much?" The answers I got were zany, including "one million dollars"! I offered three realistic choices, "Choose one."  And that's when I called a psychic network manager and predicted: "I can do better."
After all, I thought, "Since I was 8, people have noticed my sensitive nature and uncanny sixth sense. After I penned the book 'The Man Who Predicts Earthquakes,' I began dishing out quake predictions on national radio shows. Reading people and the challenges that rock their world is no different."

And now I'm one of countless psychic adviser voices who charge by the minute to tune into people and be their personal Magic Eight Ball. (I've received hundreds of positive reviews. Also, I'm tagged as the "time frame" reader with dishes dates. Yes, I'm accurate about 80 percent of the time.

Tuning In to the Faraway Caller
No, I do not use incense, hold a crystal ball or provide spells. I'm often in the company of two sensitive dogs and one black cat (they relax me), and listening to alternative music when the phone rings. I am connected to a caller who is often sad, upset or confused. And, yes, this job can be stressful as well as rewarding. Think  healer.

Once I hear a voice, it sets the stage. Often I can pick up if the call is from the West Coast, South, Northeast, Canada, Trinidad, New Zealand or Australia. And it's not always the accents. It's my animal-like intuition that kicks in from the get go. But there's more ...

Hello, Mother Nature
I use the planets as a baseline, lunar cycles (emotions and calls soar during the New and Full Moon), and a tarot card to get an objective read, which often coincides with what I've picked up with my gut instinct. As a super-sensitive woman, I can predict callers' questions by tuning into their voice, energy and words.

I can also pick up why I'm being contacted, the age of a person, their sun sign (but sometimes I do ask; usually they end up being on the cusp of two signs). If I'm challenged by a skeptical caller, it can end up in a murky reading or a hang-up. It used to hurt my feelings, but nowadays, I sip chamomile tea until the next ring.

I can sense if the caller is sincere -- and then it's show time. Sometimes, the paranormal activity kind of cues I get send chills through my body. The caller feels it, too. That means that I tapped into their psyche and we connected, big-time.

I Can Feel Your Vibrations
Both my callers and I are often surprised that I know things, such as if he or she has a toothache or heartache. The most common problem I am faced with is unrequited love (one-sided romance) -- and it hurts. How do you say, "He or she isn't that much into you?" and/or "Move on for true happiness" -- especially when the caller has her ego wounded, fears being alone or is anxious about the unknown.

I do offer positive advice and words of preparedness for upcoming events (even if a caller can't see what I'm talking about yet). I tell it like it is because saying good things doesn't always bring good or accurate results. It's like saying, "A quake won't hit" when I'm looking at the USGS map, watching an aggressive swarm on an active fault, and the caller is located at the epicenter of a country in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Fire, Earth, Water and Air Signs
Speaking of Earth elements, how do I know if a caller is a Fire, Earth, Water or Air sign? A fire sign is direct and intense, and if the topic is touchy, I can feel their heated emotions (my clavicle often aches). Earth signs are reserved, a bit shy and need a nudge to be real. I can pick up the vibe of passionate water signs' feelings and understand they want me to confirm what they know. And air signs are analytical, good communicators and have a sixth sense, but are hesitant to tune into their gut instincts.

Two days ago, a woman asked me if her sibling would survive a challenging surgical procedure. I strongly sensed "yes." Tonight, I got the answer. I was spot on. I signed on to take another call. I'm sensing the phone will ring within 15 minutes.

Oh, and if you're wondering why, if I'm so psychic, I didn't know when my book check was in the mail, the reason is this: Sometimes it can be tricky to get an accurate read on your own life. Psychic advisers frequently turn to their colleagues (or tarot cards) for an objective outlook, the way I look to the moon and planets to tell me what other people have in store.

There goes the phone, right on time. So, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll take that call.

My Dog's B-Day Would Have Been Next Week

Signs of Simon
My Soulmate with Paws
5-28-2003 - 10-23-2015

In a week, May 28, would be my Brittany's 13th birthday. Not one day goes by where memories of this canine do not pay me a visit. I miss my dog--but I am grateful for 12 1/2 years of an awesome dog-human bond--on the road and off at Lake Tahoe.

On October 23 a devastating challenge paid me an untimely visit. My senior dog, Simon, a beloved 12 1/2 year-old Brittany left my life. Due to an earthshaking diagnosis of dementia, a grim prognosis and the loss of a dear canine companion was an event I didn’t want to face. In retrospect, the signs to me were simply pesky aging but then it was clear to me that Simon was slipping away; gone in mind, body, and spirit…

My favorite movie as a kid was Old Yeller and its ending of a gripping boy and his dog tale took me back to my inner child. And I cried as the real-life story happened and left me with a bittersweet ending…

Today, I have no regrets. As I’m on the road to healing my broken heart it’s clear that Simon and I savored more than a decade together. We were bonded heart and soul each and every day. I am thankful for the wonderful days, months, years, and memories of this beautiful Brittany–both inside and outside. He was a dog to love. Letting go was the humane thing to do. No more suffering for my companion. But that’s not all…

Signs of Simon
In the past weeks I’ve received uncanny “signs” from my canine companion whom is on the other side. Some people do not believe we can communicate with the deceased.  Not so. And the stronger the animal-human bond, the more likely you, like me, will get signals from heaven…

* First, I was awakened by the reconnect dream. True, I couldn’t hold him, pet him, kiss him but I did see my boy and he was vibrant, happy, and healthy. I woke up to reality that Simon is gone but I was left in my bed (one where we slept together for 12 plus years) with a sense of calm.

* At a dermatologist’s office last week a physician’s assistant asked me if I had been crying when she looked at the puffy skin around my eyes; she sensed my pain from grief. When she left the room for a moment, the song Sounds of Silence filled the air in the room.  My eyes watered. After all, I named Simon after Simon and Garfunkel. Another connection.
* Last night when working the psychic network, I received a call while listening to more Simon and Garfunkel tunes. The caller’s date of birth May 28–the same day as my Simon’s birthday. It was another cue from the Hereafter.
* One week his collar in a basket continued to drop out onto the floor when I took my Aussie for a walk. He wanted to come with us--the pack.
* An indoor cactus plant I've had for two years, one day bloomed a single orange and white flower--it was a sign to me--and I see it each day.

Incidences, like these, have given me serenity. I needed to know there is life after death; to believe my canine is at peace; to sense that when I pass there is hope I will reconnect with this beautiful soul–a blessing, one of God’s creatures.

Life Goes On
The truth of the matter is, two-leggers and four-leggers grieve differently. My sibling misses Simon but tells me he was prepared as he watched his dear friend age. In retrospect, my cat Zen sensed Simon’s personality had morphed and it spooked him.  Nowadays, my cat almost has his zen-like balance back.
And my young Aussie? He is still a bit clingy. I sense he believes his best canine pal will walk into the home any time. But sadly, this will not happen. The void is still here in my home and my heart. But we all are getting by, getting past going through the motions, and living for the moment–as Simon did, as dogs do.

Each day gets easier, whereas instead of intrusive thoughts of the end days are overshadowed of the positive memories we shared. The fridge is graced with some of my favorite photos of Simon at his best; in each room there is a reminder, whether it be a framed Barnes and Noble poster, stuffed animal, plaque, or dog bed. His presence is still here. Yes, I remember Simon.  His spirit lives as life goes on.

How to Tune In to the Afterlife for You
* Quiet your mind and wait for messages to enter your thoughts
* Look for signs: Falling objects, electric gadgets going haywire
* Dates or numbers that coincide to the deceased
* Remote writing of initials leading you to individual’s name
* Hold onto a photo or possession of the deceased–or note if it moves to a different place

Healing Powers Series: Vinegar Stays Top Dog

By Cal Orey
Home in the mountains I'm in the zone working on Sunday, Mother's Day--like I am like a pregnant woman carrying the forthcoming tea book/ But VINEGAR, my first born, is on my mind, too. After all, The Healing Powers of Vinegar, 3rd edition is coming this summer! As the new, improved book is in production I see that the 2nd edition still grabs readers.

Today, on the Walmart website the VINEGAR book maintains it's page one status with the big boys in the diet and weight loss category. Ditto for Barnes and Noble website. Not to forget the e-book held #1 bestseller status in December. Categories? Healthy Cooking and other diet genres.

There is something about this book, this topic that continues to lure the health-conscious reader. And, of course, I admit vinegar is part of my life as are the other healing foods in the Healing Powers collection.

So, it was a busy weekend in Tea World. I've learned so much and blank pages are beginning to fill up like the tea pot I poured water into for a perfect cup of tea this afternoon.

I fantasize about taking a vacation to Canada early fall to celebrate the completion of TEA; and to book signings for the release of VINEGAR. An author's work is never done.  It's tea time and time for this one to cuddle up and take a break.
