Tahoe Tranquility Crafting a Home Retreat Inspired by Hotel Comforts
By Cal Orey
Stranded
in my hotel room in Anchorage due to icy roads, I gazed out at the stunning
Cook Inlet and Chugach Mountains. The homesickness for Tahoe's towering pines
and my two furry friends hit hard, but I found solace in the healthful comforts
of home. This experience reminded me that we can replicate these nurturing
strategies right in Tahoe, ensuring our well-being without leaving our winter
wonderland. Read on—and put these six savvy strategies to work for you.
1. Natural
Light and Fresh Air: Just like the hotel room with windows that open, ensure
your home has ample light and ventilation. Use a ceiling fan and/or air
purifiers. Fresh air circulation is vital for mental clarity and well-being.
2. Cozy
Bedding: Invest in hypoallergenic bedding like what you experienced in the
hotel. High-quality mattresses, pillows, and linens can improve sleep quality,
which is essential for physical health and mental rejuvenation.
3. Access
to Exercise Equipment: Incorporate a dedicated space for exercise at home.
Whether it’s a small gym area or simply having accessible equipment like
weights, or a rowing machine, this encourages regular physical activity, which
is crucial for maintaining heart health and weight.
4. Healthy
Snacks and Beverages: Stock your kitchen with healthy snacks and beverages akin
to the gourmet assortment provided in hotels, include items like nuts, dried
fruits, herbal teas, coffees, and infused water to promote better nutrition.
5. Relaxation
Elements: Create a calming atmosphere with elements such as aromatherapy
diffusers or scented candles using natural essential oils. This mirrors the
soothing experience of aromatherapy soaps found in hotels and contributes to
stress reduction.
6. Entertainment
Options: Set up an entertainment system that allows you to enjoy movies comfortably
at home, similar to the movie channels offered in hotels. This can provide
relaxation and enjoyment during downtime.
By integrating these
features into your Tahoe home environment, you can cultivate a space that
nourishes your mind, body, and spirit just as effectively as a luxury hotel
does. (More healthy home idea in The Healing Powers of Superfoods, Tea,and
Essential Oils books.)
